Could you try to be a bit more specific; what is the command you
give, and what is the error message?
I've got a Mandrake 8.2 partition here, so I downloaded
ftp://sunsite.uio.no/pub/unix/Linux/Mandrake/Mandrake-devel/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS2/lilypond-1.4.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
and it works fine. Maybe you should try to upgrade your installation,
also wrt security issues.

Why don't you install the Mandrake packages guile-1.4, libguile9,
libguile9-devel?

Btw,
It's also custom not to post HTML messages to a mailing lists, such as
this one. If you are using Microsoft Outlook (Express), you can send
normal plain text messages by clicking through the menus
Tools/Options/Send/Mail Sending Format/Plain Text, with options:
Set Message format as MIME, set "Encode text using:" to None.
Set Automatically wrap text at 70, and > is used to indent
original text.
