I should have figured out a way to dump this stuff before
the questions. Here are cat and less versions. The file
played fine.

Q. How do I get the midi file header fields to say what I want them
to say in an .ly file? There appear to be three fields in the
header for text above. Title,
copyright notice, and comments perhaps? Is that the standard
which nobody follows?

I installed kmid to get an example and it promptly crashed,
but here is a fragment of a lessed .kar file. The lyrics
appear to be near the beginning of the file, starting with
the Syllable "Guan".

!!!! Played the file with timidity and the lyrics scrolled
on the console, enough ahead of the music to read it.
Surprised the hell out of me. Grab it and try it, it's
pretty neat, actually. Not a super way to learn tunes
initially, but dynamite for practice or rehearsal.

Guantanamera, the words only, was written by Jose Marti
during the 14 years that he lived in New York City. The
melody to it and "La Bamba" have a common ancestor, I
read someplace long ago. Same chords: I/IV/ V/// :||
