No, they don't occur at the same time, and hence they should not be aligned.

are not equal in following space.

Yes, they are.
Both in 1.4 and 1.5 you get this:

*    o      |
            |
o      *    |
|      |    |

 ~~~~~~

The tildes illustrates the length of the two half notes - and you see that both notes get 6 tildes - and hence that they have same length.
