Give some thought to the front end. By removing the notes from the
.ly file itself it becomes much easier. Lilypond can compile
one part at a time that way, and you can have a result simply by having
a different .ly file for each part.
The easiest and best way IMHO is to make the GUI an editor
rather than a music processor. That has already been done
in noteedit and denemo.
I think that sly or something like it is the key to tying these
things together.
