guitar tab question

  I'd like to be able to use the same set of notes in both my tab staff
  and my notes staff.  I'm trying to set it like professional rock
  guitar books and magazenes.  In this case, the tab has no stems, no
  beams, and the note only occurs when it is first struck.

  I've got the following on  lily 1.6.9
  \property Staff.Stem \set #'transparent = ##t
  \property Staff.Tie \set #'transparent = ##t
  \property Staff.Slur \set #'transparent = ##t
  \property Staff.Beam \set #'transparent = ##t

  Is there a way to turn off the displaying of dots on dotted quarter
  notes for example, and to make a2~a8 only display at the position of
  the a2?  I didn't see anything in the regression testing webpage that
  deals with tab staffs.
