yes, I use
ly2dvi -p requiem_horn_linux.ly
, but neither the .ps nor the .pdf looks right :

It works after
make pfa-fonts;
now, they are right :)

In conclusion, should the lilypond-1.6.10 installation go like :
tar xzvf lilypond-1.6.10.tar.gz
cd lilypond-1.6.10
./configure
make all
make pfa-fonts
make MAKE_PFA_FILES=1 install
?
