Problems installing lilypond

OS: W2k Pro SP4

I installed cygwin using the instructions on the lilypond website, but the 
lilypond examples don't produce PDF files

Can anyone help?

I'm really puzzled, cannot recall having seen that error message before.
The question is if it comes from LaTeX. Try to run the command
latex example-1.latex
(I tried it here on the files you attached and it works just fine.)
