Please read the users manual corresponding to the version you use.

In version 1.8, you should use 'ly2dvi file.ly' to get a DVI file
with the score including titles or 'ly2dvi -p file.ly' to get the
same in PS and PDF format as well. In version 2.0, the command
'ly2dvi' has been renamed to 'lilypond'.
