Please discribe some more details on what you try to do and what
problems you see. Also, say what LilyPond version you have and on
what platform.

Just a wild guess, have you seen the instructions on what flags to use
for dvips at
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.0/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/Invoking-lilypond-book.html#Invoking%20lilypond-book
Even though the instructions are described in the context of
lilypond-book, they are just as relevant as soon as you want to
use dvips on any DVI file with LilyPond code in it.
