So, I guess you have a \midi{...} in your score but no \paper{...}. By default, LilyPond will produce paper output, but if you ask for a MIDI output, you will also have to explicitly ask for paper output. Just add a \paper{} field: \score{ ... \midi{...} \paper{} } /Mats Lyle Raymond wrote:

If you can't solve it yourself, send a copy of the printouts to the mailing list.I ran "lilypond -V st1.ly" and the output hasn't really helped me figure out the problem. Attached is a copy of the messages./Mats Lyle Raymond wrote:On Saturday 20 March 2004 9:51 am, David Raleigh Arnold wrote:On Saturday 20 March 2004 03:21, Lyle Raymond wrote:I've discovered that while in one directory, "lilypond <file.ly>" automatically creates a pdf file; but while in another, it only creates a latex file and doesn't go any further. What's happening? I'm using version 2.1.0, by the way. This is just a guess, but you're not giving much. :-)Here's a little more: All of my LP files are stored in ~/Documents/Lilypond. In that directory, there is a subdirectory for each piece I work on. My current piece, Four Brief Statements for Solo Guitar, is thus contained in the directory: ~/Documents/Lilypond/Statements, and contains st1.ly. This is only the second piece I've begun working on w/ LP. The first pieceworked fine; all invocations of lilypond produced a .dvi and .pdf file. But while working on Statements, LP only spits out a latex file. Whathas changed?Do you have any of your output in a separate directory? If so, it might be safer to use an output directory above the current, by using ./out/ or something like that, rather than using a fixed directory like /temp/out or something like that.If you are suggesting that there is a default directory for output, I'd love to find out how to set it.I would like to know if this is a really stupid answer. daveA_______________________________________________ Lilypond-user mailing list address@hidden http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user ------------------------------------------------------------------------ address@hidden Statements]$ lilypond -V st1.ly lilypond (GNU LilyPond) 2.1.0 Opening pipe `/usr/bin/lilypond-bin --version ' Opening pipe `kpsexpand \$TEXMF' Opening pipe `kpsewhich -expand-path=\$T1FONTS' Invoking `/usr/bin/lilypond-bin -I /home/lyle/Documents/Lilypond/Statements -I /home/lyle/Documents/Lilypond/Statements -I /home/lyle/Documents/Lilypond/Statements -H dedication -H title -H subtitle -H subsubtitle -H footer -H head -H composer -H arranger -H instrument -H opus -H piece -H metre -H meter -H poet -H texttranslator -H textheight -H orientation -H language -H latexpackages -H papersize -H pagenumber -H latexheaders -H latexoptions -H linewidth -H unit --verbose st1' lilypond_datadir: `/usr/share/lilypond' local_lilypond_datadir: `/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0' localedir: `/usr/share/locale' LILYPONDPREFIX: `' [/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/define-music-types.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/output-lib.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/c++.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/chord-ignatzek-names.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/chord-entry.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/chord-generic-names.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/molecule.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/new-markup.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/bass-figure.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/music-functions.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/define-music-properties.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/auto-beam.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/chord-name.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/define-translator-properties.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/translation-functions.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/script.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/drums.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/midi.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/beam.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/scm/clef.scm][/usr/share/lilypond/2.1.0/s
