For Windows: I recommend using WinXP, because 98 can't run python well. 
For editing I recommend jedit,(www.jedit.org) it has syntax highlighting 
and a downloadable plugin for LilyPond that makes it easy to compile and 
view scores. For learning I recommend using the Document Wizard of this 
plugin first. The plugin includes documentation for 2.2.x and for the 
plugin itself. (See jEdit help.) And see the Plugins>LilyTool menu and 
also Plugins>Plugin options>LilyTool

Anyway, you have errors because you copied cs instead of c2 in the first 
line after '\clef bass'.
