OK, I compiled Python (removed the Cygwin package before installing).
It compiled with absolutely no problems (crazy!), and now I have the
DLL. The DLL is in /usr/local/bin, which I tried adding to the G++
line with the -B switch [was the only thing I could think of]. Same
errors.

I seem to be sending rather a lot of e-mails to this list, is that
acceptible? Should I wait longer and try to consolidate more?
