fail on make: help2man on lilypond

I'm failing on my make of lilypond after the point
where the .o files compile and help2man is run on
lilypond.

The tail of the make output is:

/usr/bin/perl
/home/curtis/downloads/lilypond/lilypond-2.4.1/buildscripts/out/help2man
out/lilypond > out/lilypond.1
help2man: can't get `--help' info from out/lilypond
make[1]: *** [out/lilypond.1] Error 1
rm out/lexer.cc out/parser.cc
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/curtis/downloads/lilypond/lilypond-2.4.1/lily'

When I invoke lilypond in the out directory, I get:

lily/out/lilypond: /lib/i686/libpthread.so.0: version
`GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by
/usr/lib/libguile.so.12)

Do I have a system incompatability?  I'm running on RH
8.0
