I have been using this beamed length as a list stuff a number of times,
and after fiddling with values, I end up getting what I need. It is a 
fairly common question though. Perhaps it would be worth the trouble 
to include a couple of examples with extreme values for the list
as in:

#(3.0 7.0 3.0) 
#(1.0 2.0 4.0)

etc. together with the resulting, score so that one can see what
the effet of each parameter is, orders of magnitude, etc...
