White rectangle under grobs

Hello,

do you have an idea how to put a white rectangle that is slightly bigger 
than the grob's extent under a grob.
I'm thinking something like in molecule-hacking.ly, but I'm not sure if 
that is the right way, and how to draw a rectangle.
