I don't know any details about the SuSE 9.3 system or the
corresponding LilyPond package, but on many systems, the
lilypond package will install a file called lilypond-profile
or lilypond-profile.sh or lilypond.sh or something similar in
/etc/profile.d/, which means that it is sourced automatically
when you login to the system. This file should set TEXMF correctly.
