Please don't call them that, that's not clear or correct nomenclature.
If one wants guitar fret numbers, one simply uses a number 6 or
higher, or 4 fr. or 4. div. or 4. esp. etc.  What is desired is
position and barring indications, not fret numbers.

It's just markup text.  VII VII---- CVII or BVII---(half bracket)

The old way is "7. pos....."

My way is "[7a" where "a" is the lowest string barred.

It would be ****far**** more helpful to have string indications in the
manual, which are standard as a ring, but not standard as to the
content of the ring: (3) (Sol) (G).  The numbers are better for
beginners, but the letter is best for the accomplished player.  I've
got to agree with Villa Lobos on that.  He used a letter although he
was Brazilian and publishing in France.  (Sol) is too hard to read,
which is no doubt why the numbers became so popular.  daveA
