Many thanks for your suggestions.

As suggested here, I installed guile 1.6.7, but this did not fix the problem.

I tried this, but now have a new error:

    /usr/bin/lilypond-bin-2.6.3.1: error while loading shared libraries:
     libguile.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

My libguile shared libs look like this:

  /usr/lib/libguile.so -> libguile.so.12.3.0
  /usr/lib/libguile.so.12 -> libguile.so.12.3.0
  /usr/lib/libguile.so.12.3.0

I tried to fix it by creating another symbolic link (is this safe?):

    /usr/lib/libguile.so.16 -> libguile.so.12.3.0

and now have a new error:

  /usr/bin/lilypond-bin-2.6.3.1: symbol lookup
  error: /usr/bin/lilypond-bin-2.6.3.1: undefined symbol: scm_i_freelist

From what I've read about Lilypond, I am itching to get using it. All help
gratefully received.

Matt.
