PDF size

After upgrading from Lilypond 2.6.3.1 to 2.8.1, the size of my PDF 
output files has increased so massively that I'll have to revert to 
the old version.

Some examples:

2.6.3.1 with point-and-click

Moreover, the PDF output looks rather ugly on screen; I have the impression 
that the PDF converter uses bitmaps rather than embedded fonts.

Is anyone else having the same kind of problem? Is there a solution or a
workaround?
