After having figured out how to use it, I am glad the error disappears:

[localhost:Contents/Resources/bin] gerhard% ./musicxml2ly -h
Usage: musicxml2ly FILE.xml

Convert MusicXML file to LilyPond input.

Options:
       --version      show program's version number and exit
   -h, --help         show this help message and exit
   -v, --verbose      be verbose
   -o, --output=FILE  set output file
