In Windows, I guess it's normal that you can't see any embedded EPS files on screen, but they normally show up in the printed output if you have a postscript
printer.
In Linux, my best guess is that you should try a newer version of Ghostscript
(if you can choose between an AFPL and a GNU version, you should pick the
AFPL one, since they normally include more recent features).
