The manual for the program is being revised for the moment, and after that
revision, I'm sure this issue will be well explained in the documentation.

The short answer is that you should replace
<< {gis8 (fis16 e~ e2.)} \\ {b1} >> | r1 \bar "||"
by
<< {\voiceOne gis8 (fis16 e~ e2.)} \new Voice {\voiceTwo b1} >> 
\onceVoice | r1 \bar "||"
