I'm OK with this.  It's pretty much as I suggested without
the headings.  It's simpler and does the job.  (Don't think
we need to reference Slur though, else we'll need to ref
it under every instrument.)  

We need a good (unique) heading.  How about

2.3.1.1 References for bowed strings
or
2.3.1.1 Useful references for bowed strings 
or
2.3.1.1 References useful for bowed strings
