Here's a further solution to your problem which demonstrates how to use
\tweak to change the shape of one tie within a chord. Thanks to Han-Wen for showing how this should be done. I've made a note to add this to the docs.

That's nifty.

Would it be worth a page somewhere in manual just on uses of \tweak?
Notehead properties within a chord are the obvious example. Formatting
nested tuplet brackets that begin at the same moment is another really good
use of \tweak.

Both of these examples are already in LM 4.1.4 Tweaking methods. Have a
look and see if this explains it adequately.

And now the tie control points.

I'm not sure this would be suitable for the LM, as Bézier curves and Scheme
lists have not been covered there, but it should definitely go into the NR.

Maybe the different \tweaks should appear in the relevant sections of the
manual concerning the object of the tweak -- in chords, tuplets, ties, etc.

We could use snippets to do this, but the new NR tries not to use any
tweaks or overrides in the basic section (NR 1). I'd prefer to insert
refs to the sections of the LM and NR which cover these tweaks.

An alternative could be a new section in NR 5.4 called Changing shapes
where we could group this type of tweak/override.

But it just seems like a small page on the uses of \tweak could be
structurally enlightening.

I agree. There is a section, NR 5.3.5 Objects connected to the input
on \tweak, which I'd like to rename simply "The \tweak command" and
expand it to include all uses of \tweak.
