What if I want a vertically centered column of arguments? Then, rather than just using \center-align, I have to use \column and \hcenter. I think keeping its behavior the same, but renaming it to center-column make the most sense. And I think keeping \hcenter makes sense, it's still a unique function, and it may be useful.
- rename \column -> \left-column, or keep \column for backwards compatibility *and* create a duplicate called \left-column

- create a command for a right-aligned column: \right-column
