Short decrescendo

Does anyone know how to make this decrescendo go all the way to the a'2? It's
supposed to, I think.

Here's the code I used for the entire line, just in case some of this
pertains to this effect:
fis'8^\mp (e') d'4.^\< (e'8) fis' [(g')] a'2 b'8 (cis'') d''4^\mf (cis''^\>)
b'4 a'2^\! \breathe b'8 cis''
