Use \tag.  It was invented for *precisely* this situation.  It
should be somewhere in NR 3.

To everybody else who tried to help: read the bloody manual.
Especially NR 3.  There's lots of good stuff there.


To James: I reserve the right to respond to -user emails when we
have more than 4 emails where people trying to help succeed in
confusing poor users and leading them astray.  :)
