It's a good trick. And, as the documentation points out, the only reason it's off by default is too speed up processing times.

\once\override Slur #'minimum-length = #16

One thing I noticed is that you're using "Slur"
instead of "Tie". Try changing it, maybe that'll
do the trick? Hope so.
