Certainly this could be done. It has not been done in the past, because
I've never seen a fret diagram anywhere that had fingering information above
the strings.
Do you imagine that the fingering information would be right in with the
open and muted string information, so that a D chord would have
XX0123
above the diagram? Or do you imagine two separate strings, so you'd see
something like
123
XX0
for a D chord?
