Different colours in a single word

Dear all,

I need to print in red colour the first letter in a word, but the following:

\markup {\roman \with-color #(x11-color "red") "M" \with-color #(x11-color
"black") "vsicvs"}

creates a space between the coloured letter and the rest of the word.

Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance,
Andrea
