If that position is fixed to a note, but not to the system (like for example
3rd system on 2nd page), I would first try inserting spacing by markups. That
would appear as the easiest way.

Thanks for that suggestion, which had not occurred to me.
On one system, the piano staves are ridiculously far
apart. How do you bring them closer together?
