Thanks for pointing that out for the community.
So, to solve this "i" won't appear in the rehearsal mark damn problem, just do

\set Score.markFormatter = #format-mark-box-alphabet

and during the marking, just do

\mark \default


ALL WORKING LIKE MAGIC!

This has now been added to the Notation Reference as of 2.13.17.
