PS. If this appears in the Learning Manual, it must be in a secret place, it
could be placed in the articulations chapter.

In the learning manual, just after the articulations section, it says "Articulations and fingerings are usually placed automatically, but you can specify a direction
by replacing the dash (-) with ^ (up) or _ (down)."

How clearer can this be?
