You may wish to shorten the beamlets (the partial beams): \override
Stem #'beamlet-default-length = #'(0.6 . 0.6)
Unfortunately i don't know how to do this automatically only for grace
notes and not for regular ones, and i don't know how it will affect
the gap itself in your score.
