What OS, what editor and what PDF viewer are you using for all this?
I just use a regular text editor like gedit or leafpad, (sometimes geany) and evince as my PDF viewer/printer on Linux.
Either your PDF viewer is not displaying correctly or maybe there is something wrong with your syntax/editor?
