Well, the voices are supposedly shown "conceptually" and the slide is
supposed to preserve a bit of the original attack on the low note. But
the tie to the second quarter note is not consistent with that
interpretation: with that voicing, you'd usually pick the second quarter
again (usually with the thumb), and then there would not be a tie.
So this is a rather strained map between musical content, physical play,
and notation.
