I would not normally be a pedant... ah, who am I kidding?
This is a legitimate doc bug, I think: what David describes is USA
convention; British English speakers refer to “round brackets” and
“square brackets.” Parenthesis is a grammatical construct which, in USA
usage, has transferred to the punctuation used to express it.
