Sorry if I was unclear -- what I meant to say is that IMHO LilyPond
should be able to handle this correctly:

  c1 \bar "||" \break
  \repeat volta 2 { d2 d }

In other words, if \repeat takes care of the |: and :|, then \bar "||"
should not have to worry about being followed by a repeat.
Ah, I see. Yes, it would be great if LilyPond "Just Does The Right Thing (tm)" here ;-)
