I'm not saying it was a smart thing to do.

That said, if "migration strategy" means "you tell the existing team to train 
their replacements", that's a risky thing to do.  People who know their jobs are 
going to vanish have an unhealthy tendency to wield a wrecking ball on the way 
out ...
