I'm considering sponsoring the work and I'm curious to know if there would be
any other adopters if the feature were implemented.
Actually my mental model for Lilypond's effectiveness largely consists of a
case-by-case assessment of how easy it is to achieve a given Ferneyhough
notational choice :-P So I'd be very happy to see this feature added,
especially as I think it'd be unique among notation solutions. (Ferneyhough's
more recent scores, prepared using Finale, don't use this notation.)
