As a bassoonist of many years, I would pretty much expect to see a circle for the first hole on a fingering diagram instead of an oval. The fingering guide I have from Fox (a major American bassoon manufacturer) uses circles for that hole. (I only have a hard copy, and don't have access to a scanner.)
