Originally, it was 2.14.2-code but still works with 2.17.21.

This, IMHO, should be part of the default distro.

glad I could help.

For now I've put a revised version into the LSR (currently unapproved).
http://lsr.dsi.unimi.it/LSR/Item?id=884
To make it work with versions > 2.14.2 delete the $-sign in the
function or run convert-ly.

Because it seems to be a problem repeatedly asked for, I've tagged it with docs.
Do you think it's appropriate?

Fine with me. Tagging it with docs puts it into the list of documented snippets, as opposed to the "manuals" (eg the NR) themselves, and I'm comfortable with this.
