First thing: I'm assuming it's not really the copyright notice that is the 
problem: this should be at the bottom of the first page.  I think it's 
actually the tagline you're discussing: this goes at the bottom of the last 
page.

Doh!  You're so right.  That explains why fiddling with the copyright notice achieved nothing.  I must be getting a default tagline.

Second: which version are you using?  It always helps to specify.  I added 
extra spacing above the tagline in 2.17.25 so it may be you're using an 
earlier version.
