Subject: Filling empty space in inline lyrics with dots?

I frequently typeset psalm chants, where the number of words per reciting
note vary from one verse to another. To help the singers keep their eyes on the correct line of lyrics, I would like to fill empty space with a line of
dots, like in the index of a book, like so:

The earth is the Lord's, and the......................... fullness thereof,
The world and................................................ those who
dwell therein.

I've googled to my heart's content but haven't found a solution. Is there
one?

I'm very much an uninformed end-user, unfamiliar with the workings of
Lilypond beyond the standard commands.

Many thanks.
Tapani

This is almost always done using "lyric extenders" - lines rather than dots. See
