Its history is -- interesting.

It was introduced with
commit efce7ad3ecc774be52a4a208fcebf504ddcf007a
Author: Han-Wen Nienhuys <address@hidden>
Date:   Thu Jun 8 15:14:16 2006 +0000

    * input/regression/quote-tie.ly: new file.

    * lily/tie-engraver.cc (struct Head_event_tuple): add end_moment_
    to Head_event_tuple, so we deal gracefully with ties on
    cue-endings.

    * lily/pango-font.cc (pango_item_string_stencil): type correctness
    for FcChar8*

It was removed with a totally haphazard commit titled
commit 9f3572d98bb948c9689cd1f75401a029451fa001
Author: Erlend Aasland <address@hidden>
Date:   Wed May 31 01:47:30 2006 +0000

    Fix some bugs in the dynamic engraver and PostScript backend

It was reintroduced with
commit f2074d26f6b8afa53512a31f8f74594806a39d55
Author: Han-Wen Nienhuys <address@hidden>
Date:   Thu Jun 8 15:14:16 2006 +0000

    * input/regression/quote-tie.ly: new file.

    * lily/tie-engraver.cc (struct Head_event_tuple): add end_moment_
    to Head_event_tuple, so we deal gracefully with ties on
    cue-endings.

    * lily/pango-font.cc (pango_item_string_stencil): type correctness
    for FcChar8*

The change is so unrelated to the commit messages that it would appear
that importing CVS into Git failed here and/or development that happened
in branches was flattened into a linear history.

At any rate, I don't see that anything but the actual definition ever
went into LilyPond.
