That depends on the voicing. If you're able to enter this as a voice 
that changes the staff (\change Staff = "up" or whatever you call the 
upper staff) you can (must) simply use a Slur instead of a Tie

a ( \change Staff = "up" a )

Unfortunately this will cause the note to be triggered again in MIDI (if 
you use that too).

If you can't use a single voice you have to add a temporary polyphonic 
section and use an additional, hidden voice just for the cross staff curve.
I don't go into detail here as long as I'm not sure that's what you 
actually want.

Could you provide a small image of the context?
