And making the NoteHead infinitely small?

\override NoteHead #'stencil = #point-stencil ???

Can't one override the extent of a grob to be zero? AFAIK this is 
usually done to deliberately avoid collision handling but couldn't this 
be used in conjunction with \hide to achieve what you want?
