Thank you all for your suggestions and for not flooding me with RTFM.

I'll go with this variation:

dd = \markup {
  \combine
  \translate-scaled #'(0 . .25) D
  \translate-scaled #'(.5 . -.25) D
}

which seems to work well in combination with other, non-stacked symbols.
