Actually, you can use pretty-print directly, as of 2.19.18.  See https://sourceforge.net/p/testlilyissues/issues/4331/

Hmm.  Though objections were voiced after this was pushed.  (See https://codereview.appspot.com/222810043.  I'll offer again there to remove the enhancement.)
