Basically, \version is only for maintenance purposes. LilyPond doesn’tactually do anything different based on it. It should reflect theversion of the syntax you used for writing the input file. Nowconvert-ly will know from where to start its work, and you (orFrescobaldi) will know which LilyPond version to use for compiling it.
